If you’re wondering about the difference between the keto diet versus dirty keto, you’re not alone! There are many people who live the keto lifestyle and are just now starting to learn that dirty keto exists.

The great thing about living a low-carb lifestyle is that there are fewer restrictions than being on a diet plan that limits and makes you count every single calorie or bite of food that enters your mouth. In fact, the keto diet is an unrestricted diet plan that yields some amazing results.

Let’s dive into some of the most asked questions surrounding the lazy keto diet and how it differs from the original.

What is the keto diet?

While there are a lot of moving parts to learning the ins and outs of the keto diet, the biggest thing to remember is that you’re eating high-fat foods like meats and cheese and cutting out anything processed, white, or made with sugar.

The original keto diet didn’t focus on “counting” calories as much and focused more on eating clean and eating lower in carbs.

What does dirty keto mean?

Dirty keto is a newer form of the keto diet and is taking the diet world by storm. While it still has the same overall thought process of keeping low carb intake, it tends to focus more on counting calories rather than eating foods that aren’t processed.

This is why you’ll see many trendy videos and online influences doing “lazy” keto, drinking diet soda, and eating processed foods labeled low carb or keto.

The end goal of both diet lifestyles is the same, but they both take varied paths to accomplish that goal.

Dirty keto is a version of keto that allows for small concessions in your diet. Like sausages and processed meats? Eat them! Like packed granola bars? Eat them! Since the dirty keto or low-carb keto diets are not as strict as the clean keto diet, it’s a little easier to adhere to.

Does dirty keto work?

It does! It’s one of those diets that works well because it gives people the flexibility to eat foods that don’t make them feel restricted.

Which keto diet plan is easier to follow?

This just depends on the person who is changing to the keto lifestyle. There are some differences in the diet plan as well that can make things vary.

Back in the day, when the keto diet started, the big thing was to eat just the burgers from the restaurant without the bun.

By today’s standards of labeling the two different types of keto diets, that ordering from the restaurant would now fall underneath the “dirty keto” diet plan because that burger is processed and not natural.

If you’re looking for an easier option, you have to be true to yourself and how well you will be able to stick to the plan. If you like burgers from a restaurant, looking at the lazy keto diet might be a better plan for you.

Should I consult a doctor?

Anytime you’re starting a new diet or changing your diet, it’s a good idea to consult a professional.

This is a safe way to let your physician know that you’re planning on changing your eating habits with the goal of losing weight.

Is the keto diet healthy?

The jury is still out on this one. On the one hand, it’s not healthy for our bodies to be overweight. It causes health risks such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even more added stress to our hearts and lungs.

On the other hand, eating excess fried foods and fried bacon because it’s low in carbs isn’t exactly a healthy approach either.

A healthy approach can be to set a goal and then make a healthy plan on how to achieve that goal. This can be where meeting with a physician or doctor can be a simple way to make a healthy lifestyle change for all.

Can you have a cheat day on dirty keto?

If you’ve ever done any type of dieting, having a cheat day is typically something that everyone does. Not only does this give your body a little break from feeling restricted, but it’s also a great way to cheat to get back on the diet wagon then and stay stronger longer.

If you plan and play your cards right, you can have a cheat diet on clean keto and dirty keto. Just like any diets and cheat days, planning does need to happen so that you don’t fall off the wagon completely, wiping out all your hard work.

How many daily carbs can I have on the lazy keto diet?

The number of carbs you can have daily for clean and lazy keto is the same. You should have no more than 50 grams of carbs daily to be considered eating low carb.

What differs between the two is the rest of the foods that you are eating. Clean eating keto focuses on eating clean foods that aren’t processed, while dirty keto has way more wiggle room to eat processed foods that are still low in carbs. (this is where the term “lazy keto” came from – because no one actually wanted to have to track the carbs).
