How to make dairyfree glutenfree sugarfree khajur dry fruit barfi
Prep for Date Barfi
Just like we do for the anjeer barfi, soak about 200 grams of anjeer or figs in 100 ml water overnight. If you’re preparing it the same day, soak the anjeer or figs for 4 to 6 hours instead.
Next, grind figs or anjeer along with 300 grams of dates to a rough paste and set aside.
Start with making slivers of almonds and spreading them in a tray that’s been greased with coconut oil and lined with butter paper.

Cooking the Date Barfi
Next roughly chop the remainder of the dry fruits, namely about 250 grams of almonds, pistachios and cashew nuts and roast them for a few minutes till you get that beautiful nutty aroma.

Cook the khajur (date) and anjeer (fig) paste with 70 ml ghee and keep stirring till it gets really dry. The traditional method uses ghee, but we use coconut oil which is dairy free and enhances the nutty flavor.

Once it looks quite dry, add in the roughly chopped nuts and stir till it leaves the sides.

Setting the Date Barfi aka Khajur Barfi
Pour the mixture into your pre-greased tray, cover it with one more layer of tissue and flatten it with your hand, spatula or a towel. The mixture is very hot, so if you’re doing it by hand, first grease your fingers and palms or you’ll get burnt like me!

Although we use a flat tray to make this khajur sweet recipe, you can make a khajur roll using the exact same recipe. The only additional step in the khajur roll recipe would be rolling the mixture in a bed of grated almonds or coconut powder or sesame (til) before refrigeration.

Refrigeration Time!
Refrigerate the mixture for about an hour or two till it gets solid. Once it’s solid, peel off the tissue paper, cut the dairy free sugar free dry fruit barfi into pieces and serve!

And that’s really it! An easy khajur pak step by step recipe or khajur barfi recipe. If you try this free sugar free dry fruit barfi recipe, comment and let us know how how much you liked it, or how much you didn’t! Wink wink, we know you’ll love it!
Tips for Making the Date Barfi
- You can skip the fig (anjeer) paste and use only date (khajur) paste.
- Or you can use only fig paste and skip the dates. Both ways work!
- Any chopped nuts will work – cashew nuts, almonds, walnuts, pistachios.
- The longer you refrigerate the barfi before cutting, the better!
- There are many other recipes you can make with dates, including date rolls, date and orange cakes, date and walnut cakes, Tu BShvat cookies, and more.
